WheelMasks Review
WheelMasks is a valuable utility that enhances the color schemes of your paintings and illustrations. This tool allows you to create harmonious color palettes by utilizing wheel masks.
With WheelMasks, you have the ability to draw a shape over the color wheel, defining the palette of colors available for your illustration. This ensures that your color scheme remains harmonious throughout your work.
What sets WheelMasks apart from traditional palette creation apps is its unlimited color options. This makes it an indispensable tool for digital painters and colorists who require a diverse range of colors.
The app offers both preset masks and the option to create custom masks by modifying existing ones or starting from scratch. It provides various preset masks for different color schemes including triad, square, tetradic, complementary, accent, split, and analogous.
The color wheel can be easily customized according to your preferences. You can choose the number of hues, levels for each hue, and adjust the brightness or saturation if applicable.
In the extended palette view, you can view the color definitions in RGB values or Hex. Additionally, you can copy these values to the clipboard for easy access.
- Choose from different color modes for the wheel: RGB, RYB, RYGB, and Equiluminant.
- Keep an organized archive of all your created wheel masks.
- Export your wheel masks to compatible image editing apps as PNG files or as swatch files compatible with Adobe Swatch Exchange or Procreate.
Except for Equiluminant mode, all other modes have three variants:
- Normal: A traditional color wheel with customizable saturation or brightness gradually decreasing towards the center.
- Chroma: A color wheel with equal lightness in each hue, while chroma decreases toward the center from yellow to its opposite hue.
- Grey: A color wheel with converging colors towards a neutral grey at the center.
The Equiluminant mode offers two variants, HSLuv and HPLuv. HSLuv is an extension of the CIELUV color space, which aims for perceptual uniformity. In this mode, the lightness of every hue in the color wheel is perceptually the same, providing consistent lightness across different hues.
